Omar is a Pittsburgh native but has lived all across the country including North Carolina and Kansas. He was a triple major in college graduating valedictorian and Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in molecular biology and neuroscience as well as a Bachelor of Arts in economics with honors. His undergraduate research was focused on protein turnover for which he earned a Howard Hughes Medical Institute research fellowship award. He would then enter graduate school earning a Master of Public Health with clinical research investigating pediatric kidney stone outcomes. During residency, Omar has worked intensively with the health services research group on publications ranging from the influence of pharmaceutical payments on physician prescribing habits to mental health and bladder cancer. Omar holds a black belt in taekwondo and was formerly a wrestler. In his free time, he enjoys weight lifting, grilling/BBQ with friends and family, as well as bicycling. Next year, Omar will enter his fellowship in pediatric urology at UPMC.
